Pinkalicious

June 26, 2011

On Wednesday, June 22, Isabel came over to play and make Pinkalicious cupcakes with Ford.  Pinkalicious is a cute book we have from the library and in the story the little girl eats so many pink cupcakes that she turns pink.  Ford absolutely loves the story and was excited for his best friend to come over to make some strawberry pink cupcakes with him.  They each had their darling aprons on that Mrs. McCall gave them for Christmas.  They took turns and then worked together pouring the cake mix into the bowl (and taste testing the dry mix), each poured an egg into the bowl and some water, and mixed and mixed, and tasted and tasted, and mixed and tasted some more.  They also put the baking cups into the muffin tins.  While the cupcakes were baking they were off having a great time playing together and then painted for a bit too.  Once the cupcakes were baked and cooled they each had their own pink frosting, pink sprinkles, and rainbow sprinkles to use on their five cupcakes.  They were hilarious to watch.  They would frost some, taste some, sprinkle some, try to lick the sprinkle bottle tops as they each ended up getting frosting on top of the bottles (and I ended up throwing all four bottles in the trash when we were done), happy as could be.  At the end they started putting their icing all over their hands and faces, just laughing as they put more and more pink on themselves.  By the end, all of Ford’s icing was out of his bowl, with the majority on his face and hands and arms (and some on his shirt that wasn’t covered by the apron).  Isabel had lots of pink on her face and some on her hands, but managed to keep herself clean otherwise for the most part.  The two friends definitely had a great time.

After picking up Ford from school one Wednesday not long ago we had a special snack together, pudding.  Ford had stayed late so had eaten lunch at school, but I wanted to give him a snack before his nap time/quiet time.  When I gave him his pudding he said to me “you want a bite” and put his spoon out towards me to share.  I said thank you, but that I had my own.  Then Ford said “yeah, we eat pudding together!”  And we did.  And it was yummy.  And it was funny to see Ford go from a somewhat clean face to a pudding covered face.  At one point he was putting his pudding filled spoon on his chin and rubbing it around making his face even more messy.  But he had fun doing it and even though he was messy, he managed to eat the majority of it.

On Wednesday, September 8, when Ford came home from school we headed upstairs to read and have a nap.  Ford climbed in his chair, got a few books and while he was reading he started singing a song he learned at school.  I couldn’t help but giggle as he was so loud and animated and very southern in parts.  I went off to get the camera and he kept on singing for me.  It was such a fun thing to hear him sing something that he had learned during music at school.

A little bit of a dirty face from playing on the play ground before I picked him up. . .a sign of a great day

Shoes and zoo

August 8, 2010

On Monday, August 2, Ford put on his Crocs by himself for the first time.  He has only started wearing them lately and on Monday decided he would put them on himself.  He is becoming such a big boy and I couldn’t be prouder, and now he even gets them on the right feet!

We were headed out to the zoo and were late so I didn’t take the time to switch them until we were inside the zoo and this picture had been taken.  He has continued to try and put them on by himself since.

Monday was a perfect zoo day!  It was overcast and much cooler than usual.  We met Holley and Isabel and baby Ava, Emily with Hayes and Tripp, and later Brice with Lawson joined us too!  Ford and Isabel had not seen each other in two weeks (we were at the beach and then they went to the beach the next week).  The two friends were almost giddy around each other.

Ford, Isabel, Tripp and Hayes– four sweet friends who will all be in the same class when school starts in a few weeks!

The boots

May 24, 2010

Ford recently got his first pair of rain boots.  They actually match his rain coat he got earlier this spring and are supposed to be frogs.  He was excited to have them and told me “I put my rain boots on play basketball.”  And this is what it looked like:

Friday May 14

Then on Sunday May 16 we had told Ford he could go in the sprinkler after lunch.  Just has he was finishing it started sprinkling a little outside.  Since we had already told the Bean about the sprinkler, we stuck to the plan, despite the impending rain.  We headed out front to the sprinkler,  turned it on, and smiles and squeals started.

Not long after getting outside the rain started.  So, I did what any good mother would do and went in to get the boy’s rain boots and we continued to play outside.  Seemed like the perfect opportunity for his boots to be used.  And he loved wearing them!  Must have looked really funny to people driving by to see our sweet boy with only his diaper and rain boots on, playing in the sprinkler while it was raining (until the thunder started and cut our fun short).

Ford found his lost Pass today.  Two and a half months after giving them up.  Back in February I knew that one was missing but figured it was lost for good (we hadn’t seen it in quite a while).  Should I have looked for it?  Now I can tell you for sure, yes, I should have.  But, since I didn’t, Ford was quite excited and proud of himself when he discovered it this morning.  It immediately went in his mouth and he started almost chewing away on it.  Lovely.  Not quite sure how this battle is going to turn out.  Don’t think he is going to fall for the “let’s throw Pass in the trash” gimmick like he did back in February.

Just like Dada

Ford is tall enough to reach things off of the counters now, including Dad’s sunglasses.  He is also big enough now to put them on himself (even if they aren’t right side up).

The kid cracks us up

April 6, 2010

Last night we had some friends join us for dinner.  Ford always loves having friends come visit and last night was no different.  He revs up and gets on “super mode” running around, showing off, and just being plain silly.  When I was in the kitchen getting things ready Jeff called “Allison, come in here to see what your son is doing.”  “Your son.” Hhmmm.  You never know what you are about to see when that phrase is pulled out.  When I walked into the family room there was Ford lounging in his red chair with the bag of chips that was part of the appetizer, leg crossed over his knee, not a care in the world, munching away while watching what they had on TV.  We really should have taken a picture of him.  It was too funny.

Earlier that day Ford and I were both in the kitchen.  I was getting our things together to go meet our friend to walk.  While I got his drink and snack ready Ford managed to take his shorts off, and one of his socks and shoes completely off.  When I turned and saw him, now half undressed, he just grinned at me.  My camera was on the counter and this is what I captured.

Check out his new tennis shoes his Grandad bought him this weekend (more on that soon)

Working to get the other shoe off

On a completely separate (and not funny) note.  I ended up taking Ford to the doctor late yesterday afternoon.  He woke up from a very short nap crying and told me his ear hurt.  He had done this a couple of times during the weekend, but then would be his normal happy self, so I figured maybe his ear was just “plugged” and felt funny due to all the pollen.  But, when he couldn’t sleep again today and said his ear hurt again, I decided it was worth paying the doctor to check it out.  Luckily Dr. Bartlett could see him an hour later.  She isn’t our usual doctor, but is in the same practice as Dr. Greenhouse.  Ford was weighed and weighs 24.6 pounds.  I asked the nurse to measure his length as well.  He is now 36 inches which places him in the 69% for height.  He is definitely long and lean at this point.  In fact, we have lots of trouble keeping his pants up because of his small waist.  He started amoxicillin tonight and will take it twice a day for 10 days.  We can give him Benadryl and Tylenol to help him too.  I am thankful we went in and am also amazed that we are now at the stage where our “baby” can tell us that something is wrong.

But at least he is not wasting the leftover milk.

Ford’s friend, Isabel

March 17, 2010

Ford has a dear friend named Isabel.  We met Isabel and her parents this summer through a mutual acquaintance.  Holley and I hit it off immediately and started hanging out quite a bit.  Holley signed Isabel up for the same Little Gym class as Ford, we started going to the same Bible study where the two little ones get to play together in the nursery, and Holley started joining us on play dates with other friends.  And now, Ford and Isabel are in the same class at school too.  Ford and Isabel became quick friends just like their moms.  Isabel is now one of Ford’s very best friends.  They both absolutely, genuinely, love each other.  Any time they are together they both get so silly.  They love chasing each other and running around together.  Whatever one does, the other immediately does the same thing.  So, if Ford shrieks, Isabel shrieks.  If Isabel goes to look out the window, Ford goes right next to her.  If one falls down or sits down, the other does too.  At Little Gym they spend a lot of time close to each other and to Emily too.  The three of them are the “three musketeers.”  We can always count on Ford, Isabel and Emily to be off doing their own thing together rather than joining the group on the mat.  When we aren’t with Isabel Ford will ask about her and Holley.  Sometimes he will pretend to call her and talk to her on his phone and Holley says that Isabel often “calls” Ford when she is at home too.  Ford loves Isabel.  One day before Little Gym he told me “Chase Isabel, run, jump!”  And, when we got to Little Gym that is exactly what he did.  He ran around with Isabel and they jumped and laughed and were so silly together.  Ford also loves to hug Isabel and occasionally hold her hand too.

Isabel, Ford, and Emily being silly together. Ford has a huge smile that you can barely see

Like I said, what one does, the other does.  This apparently includes time out as well.  Holley and Isabel stopped by one day to drop something off.  They came in for a bit and while Ford and Isabel were playing, Ford threw a toy.  And then threw another one.  So he was sent to time-out.  Not too much later, he did it again and was sent back to time-out.  This time, Isabel joined him.  Such a loyal friend.

March 5

Ford and Isabel also share some similar interests.  They both love Mickey Mouse and Ford loves going to Isabel’s house because she has lots of Mickey and friends stuffed animals and toys.  They also both love being outside!  Last week on March 9 Holley and Isabel came over and the weather was so beautiful we let them play outside.  They played hoops, took turns pushing each other in the car, ran around and just had fun.  While running Ford fell down on the driveway.  As we went to pick him up and clean him off, Isabel sat herself down on the driveway next to Ford and touched her forehead to the ground.  Again, monkey see, monkey do.  Holley and I just laughed.  Needless to say, they were both so dirty after playing that day, but much fun was had by both friends.

Please excuse the pants falling off our boy in this picture. . .  he was working hard

We are very thankful that Ford has such a great friend in Isabel.  It is always a joy to watch the two of them together.
